This is a curated list of articles, seeds, photo/video posts and comments for the past two weeks. The series will combine the use of Newsvine's "thumbs up" as well as the minds of the Newsvine team. As always, meta articles about the proper use of the site will be ignored for this feature. Those tend to get both the most upvotes, as well as the most flags.

I know I hate things… not least among them… people who promulgate and incite hatred. I’d say that experiencing hatred is pretty much unavoidable. But we all have the opportunity to choose what we will do with that hatred. Personally, I don’t like the experience of hatred… So I work to mitigate those feelings… and I find it difficult to understand those who actually seem to take pleasure in their hatred.
Again, the issue isn't whether one side or the other can come up with more anecdotes than the other side. (White racists would lose this anecdote battle with ease.) The issue of institutional white racism is one about power. Real power. Institutional power. Not the lame power of a white racist Irish immigrant father, or a black kid on the street, but the real power of society's institutions. Hence, the name "institutional racism."

AmericaMust commented on "The Confederate Flag Needs To Be Raised, Not Lowered"
This is not a debate about private citizens displaying the flag on their homes, their cars, bumpers, or bodies. This is about displaying a that symbol on public land.
The American Flag represents the entire country, the confederate flag, Christian symbols, the Star of David, etc. do not represent all Americans and are examples of personal (aka private) expression and have no business being portrayed as being either endorsed nor denied by our country.
Articles (rants) like the one in this seed are trying to make people think that the confederate flag is being banned from being displayed by a private citizen, but it is not, and this is not even close to being a "step" in that direction.
Fly your confederate flag all you want, show people who you are, just don't fly it over our State Capitals, because it does NOT represent who WE are.
Tip of the Week: Quoting from Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card "In the moment when I truly understand my enemy, understand him well enough to defeat him, then in that very moment I also love him. I think it’s impossible to really understand somebody, what they want, what they believe, and not love them the way they love themselves. And then, in that very moment when I love them.... I destroy them."
It's OK to love your opposition, to respect your opposition.
So who's going to make next week's Best Of? What did we miss?
